If you have interacted with Portage Community this past year, you would have met our staff member who does it all: Liz Ours. Portage Community wants to express gratitude for our Operations Director as she serves students, mentors, and Portage Community’s partners faithfully. Read below to get to know her a little more.

Liz Ours joined Portage Community as Operations Director in March 2022. In her role, Liz oversees the day-to-day functions of the organization in addition to developing and expanding program offerings. Liz’s education and professional experience are in business management.

A passion for serving others has led to volunteer leadership roles in two local nonprofits over the past ten years. Her professional experience in business and personal work in the nonprofit sector create a background well suited for the role of Operations Director. Liz believes that everyone deserves a chance, especially when it comes to their educational dreams, and she’s excited to be a part of the mission at Portage Community.

Liz and her husband Ben have been married for 13 years. They have two boys, Elijah, and Hunter. As a family, they enjoy being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She also enjoys reading, exercising, and volunteering.

A colleague of Liz’s describes her saying, “Liz is one of my favorite people to work with. She has a very special ability to recognize and encourage people’s strengths, and help them to work through their weaknesses. Her ability to rise to every challenge she meets inspires you to do your best work. She brings out the best in people because she’s someone you don’t want to disappoint. I feel very lucky to be able to call Liz my co-worker, and my friend.”
